Is my progress saved? Yes, on your device. There is no account, so deleting the app removes your progress.

Do I need an internet connection? Only for ads. All case content works offline.

I am stuck on a case. Use the in-game hints. They are free to unlock by watching one short ad, and every clue you need is in the case file.

How do I stop ad tracking? iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → turn off Last Fare. The game works the same.
